COLLABORATION

We are your partner for high-quality product design

FORMDETAIL - Industrial Design offers sophisticated special design solutions, is specialized on complex tasks and focusses on the developing of company-owned product languages. We develop inventive, intelligent products with the highest quality. We have years of experience in demanding concepts and industrial design.

We advise on design questions, introduce creative ideas, concept the design and aim to set it all up strictly target-oriented.

Many of our form ideas, concepts and proposals have been adopted and can be seen in products that are available on the market today. In part, these were implemented in collaboration with MeDes Industrial Design and the FORMWANDEL Design Network.

The details, which determine the quality of a product, arise from personal interaction with our customers. By keeping regular contact with the customer the products get an identity that fits the customer.

SERVICES

Consulting - Product / GUI Design - Vision

Our service is based on these three pillars. Different competences can become supplemented by our longtime network partners. These include the powerful FORMWANDEL Design Network with highly qualified designers, MeDes Industrial Design and FASTPART Kunststofftechnik GmbH with innovative engineers.

PHILOSOPHY

Art has the questions, design the answers

We want to develop concept and design for your product and we appreciate to shape the design language of a product, as well as its compliance with corporate branding and identity.

We aim to accurately capture a development, to design a product functionally, constructively and aesthetically.

Our design development process includes an efficient interaction with engineers, where we designers go top–down, engineers go bottom–up.

Our philosophy is “the winning combination” between engineers and designers to fulfill the needs of future users.

“IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE ENGINEERS LISTEN TO THE DESIGNERS. IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT THAT THE DESIGNERS LISTEN TO THE ENGINEERS.”

Inspired by: Peter Blake, a New Zealand yachtsman.

RAPID PROTOTYPING

3D data file - from virtual to real object

Concerning simple and fast presentations we make use of a simple 3D printer to check proportions and features.

If high quality 3D models for accurate depictions are needed, we make use of our networking partners.

The example shows a 3D printer in action when creating a scale model.

2D RENDERINGS & 3D MODELS

Teufel PC Speakers - Concept B 200 USB

Here are a few drawings from our archive. These give a small insight into our design process for a PC speaker from the year 2007 for the company: Lautsprecher Teufel GmbH. In product design, we depict our concept variants and preliminary drafts by doing freehand / rendering sketches and making 3D models. Our demands on quality and diversity of variants of the renderings are very high. By using them we communicate many ideas and details, beginning in the first design phases. We develop our work models partly in parallel using the CAD program. These 3D designs are very important for us, because e.g. the proportions of an object can better become evaluated with the model in its overall quality.

The focus of the project "Concept B 200 USB" was in the product design and pre-construction of a 2.0 PC HiFi speaker system with special bass reflex openings, integrated in the feet. The design was developed in the proven cooperation with Harold Schurz-Preisser of MeDes Industrial Design. For this product the reddot design award was awarded in 2010.

It is always a pleasure to listen to music with these speakers :-)

GUI ANIMATION

3D models and GUI animations

Here are some old GUI examples from our archive. When we design products we develop the different design fields at the same time and not separately.

We match the 3D and 2D design and put it together to create an optimized product. We check the hardware and software ergonomics with real 3D models and GUI animations.

These 3D models and 2D demonstrations can be tested by different users. We evaluate the test results to ensure optimal handling and interaction between user and product.

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN SKETCHES

electric child cars - Mercedes A Class & SLK

Digital proportion sketches by using 2D software and interactive graphic tablets.

This example shows drawings with those we provide a lot of information. Drawing is an effective and universal medium for the visualization of product ideas. No matter whether traditional or digital drawing, by no other medium designers can work so fast, analytically and free. Drawing is still an important tool throughout the entire design process.

The picture section on the right shows the production of the small series in the workshop of Prokar GmbH.

RANGE OF VARIANTS

A wealth of ideas is our groundwork

For us, the package drawing is an important work basis. All the important assemblies in their arrangement are shown. On this basis we begin with the development of different variants. Variants do e.g. include functions, arrangements, colors, materials and embellishments. We are not happy with just offering two proposals, but try to generate a maximum wide range of ideas.

WORKFLOW & SKILLS

For A ROAD TRIP IN 2116 - an VEHICLE DESIGN CONTEST from Allegorithmic 2016

Conception, CAD modeling (SolidWorks), CGI animation, photo shooting and photomontages for a conceptual vehicle of virtual nature in the field of entertainment designs.

This example shows the possibility of a rapid prototyping model, which we use when developing a design. In these procedures the quick availability of 3D models is an advantage.

The construction of models - in regard to verification and illustration of shape and the representation of the functionality of a new product - is an essential step for us during the development of a product design.

Depending on the task, we combine different technical possibilities to depict our present ideas. This example shows our chosen partner, as in this case a 3D body scan.
